A Letter to Jay-Z

Mr. Jay,
Thank you. Thank for telling me to be “Forever Young.” Kilroys and Sports can also thank you, because if I am “Forever Young,” I will forever be attending IU and those fine establishments where my thirst has been quenched many-a parched late nights.
Thank you for telling me that “we don’t have the power, but we never say never.” I now have the confidence not to give up, but to finish that last beer bong with the enthusiasm of a college freshman and the speed of Michael Phelps (whoops, forgot he liked the OTHER kind of bong…).
Thank you for letting me know that “We’re Gonna Run This Town Tonight.” I knew I had it in me to stumble the streets of Kirkwood and Walnut repeatedly one more year, even when I felt un-confident in my ability to finagle my way through the “birth-canal” in Kilroys one more night.
“Life’s a game, but it’s not fair…” Your right, it’s not fair the bars close at 3am. Or that Jimmy John’s takes FOREVER to deliver after you get home at 3:22 AM after stumbling down Kirkwood and Walnut, after you’re disgustingly sweaty from trying to get through Roys’ to the bathroom….you see where this is going.
“Can I get an ENCORE, do you want more?” Well, not really. But Jay-Z, thanks for letting me know that taking an extra semester isn’t so bad. ”This here is a victory lap, and I’m leaving….” Yeah, my parents are hoping I leave after that 4 1/2 year….
“I came, I saw, I conquered. ” You’re right Jay-Z, I did. So thanks. Thanks for telling me to have a great time at IU and that I don’t need to graduate on time. I took your advice.
Sincerely,
np
